Bracewell Replaces Injured Phillips for First Test in Zimbabwe

Michael Bracewell has been added to New Zealand’s Test squad for the first Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, stepping in for the injured Glenn Phillips.

Phillips was ruled out of the entire tour after sustaining a right groin injury during the Major League Cricket final.

From The Hundred to Test Duty

Bracewell was originally unavailable for the Zimbabwe Tests due to commitments with Southern Brave in The Hundred, but is currently in Zimbabwe as part of New Zealand’s T20I squad.

With his availability lining up for the opening Test, head coach Rob Walter confirmed he was the ideal replacement:

“Glenn’s injury provided a gap in the Test squad, and Michael is the closest like-for-like replacement,” Walter said.
“His experience and skillset are a great asset and allow us to maintain the team’s balance.”

A Short-Term Boost

Bracewell will only be available for the first Test, after which he is set to rejoin Southern Brave for the remainder of The Hundred.

“We’ll get through the first Test and then decide whether to replace him for the second,” Walter added.
