Kyle Jamieson Replaces Injured Milne
Following confirmation that Adam Milne is ruled out of the T20 World Cup, New Zealand Cricket has named Kyle Jamieson as his replacement in the 15-man squad. Jamieson was earlier listed as a travelling reserve and is already with the team in India, allowing for a seamless transition.
Another travelling reserve is expected to be announced by New Zealand Cricket in the coming days as injury concerns continue to affect the squad.
Injury Woes Continue for New Zealand
Milne’s setback adds to a growing list of injury troubles for New Zealand. Fast bowlers Will O’Rourke, Blair Tickner, Nathan Smith and Ben Sears are all currently unavailable due to injuries. Meanwhile, Mitchell Santner, Mark Chapman and Matt Henry have only recently returned from injury layoffs and are being carefully managed.
Lockie Ferguson, another key member of the T20 World Cup squad, is recovering from a calf injury and is not part of the ongoing India series. Both Ferguson and Henry are also expected to miss parts of the tournament due to scheduled paternity leave, further stretching New Zealand’s bowling depth.
Rob Walter Reacts to Milne’s Absence
New Zealand head coach Rob Walter expressed disappointment over Milne’s injury but backed Jamieson to step up.
“We’re all gutted for Adam. He worked incredibly hard to get himself ready for the tournament and was looking back to his best in his eight games for Sunrisers Eastern Cape. It’s unfortunate timing, and we wish him a speedy recovery,” Walter said.
Speaking about Jamieson’s inclusion, Walter added:
“Kyle is already with us here in India and has hit the ground running. He’s an integral part of our pace group, a hard worker, and brings valuable experience that will be crucial at the T20 World Cup.”
