RCB Sale 2025: Diageo Confirms Strategic Review, New Owner Likely Before March 31

RCB sale 2025

The long-speculated RCB sale 2025 is finally official — Diageo, the global beverage giant and owner of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), has initiated a formal sale process. According to a disclosure filed with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the company aims to complete the transfer of ownership by March 31, 2026.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru, one of the most popular IPL franchises, is now up for grabs, marking one of the most significant ownership transitions in Indian cricket since IPL’s inception.

RCB Sale Process Officially Announced by Diageo

In its disclosure, Diageo described the move as a “Strategic Review of the Investment in Royal Challengers Sports Pvt. Ltd. (RCSPL)”, the subsidiary of United Spirits Limited (USL) that owns RCB’s IPL and WPL teams.

The company said,

“USL is initiating a strategic review of the investment in its wholly owned subsidiary, RCSPL. RCSPL’s business comprises ownership of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise teams that participate in the men’s IPL and women’s WPL tournaments hosted by the BCCI annually.”

USL Managing Director & CEO Praveen Someswar stated that RCB remains a “valuable and strategic asset,” but the move aligns with Diageo’s focus on its core alcobev business.

Why Diageo is Selling RCB

Sources indicate that the RCB sale 2025 is being driven by Diageo’s intent to exit non-core investments and focus on its liquor portfolio. The tragic June 4 stampede outside Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which killed 11 fans, reportedly accelerated discussions among shareholders questioning the company’s involvement in cricket.

Experts say Diageo is looking to divest either fully or partially, with the sale process being overseen by an international merchant banking firm to ensure a smooth transaction.

Who Are the Potential Buyers for RCB?

As per Cricbuzz, several heavyweight groups are interested in acquiring RCB. Potential bidders for the RCB sale 2025 include:

  • Adani Group
  • JSW Group (Jindal family)
  • Adar Poonawalla (Serum Institute of India)
  • Ravi Jaipuria (Devyani International Group)
  • A US-based private investment firm

If the sale goes through before March 2026, it could make RCB one of the most expensive franchises ever sold in global cricket.

What This Means for IPL 2026 and Beyond

The RCB sale 2025 could reshape the IPL’s business landscape, similar to how ownership changes revitalized franchises like Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s fan base, brand value, and merchandise potential make it a blue-chip asset, even after 17 seasons without an IPL title.

With Diageo’s exit confirmed, the next owners could bring a new direction — possibly with greater corporate involvement and local engagement.
